💭 ON MY MIND
2024 Ins and Outs
Okay, I know everyone has probably already done or seen this trend. Some of the lists I’ve seen are a little out of touch (looking at you, self-proclaimed wellness influencers), and some of them are really great. All in all, it seems like most people just want to enjoy a more wholesome and soft life in 2024—and I’m here for it. So I thought I would share a few of my ins and outs for the year with their explanations. It will probably come as no surprise that my ultimate goal for 2024 is to enjoy the little things with more intention. 2023 was tough in many, many ways, so a year with less jagged edges seems pretty good to me.
Without further ado, here are my ins and outs for 2024:
INS
🎧🧘🏼♀️📖📲👯♀️🥰
Daily movement: This one is inspired by my friend Shenique (who has an incredible running and fitness Instagram that you should definitely check out), who is committing to doing some sort of movement every single day. Last year, moving my body more regularly and consistently has been an absolute game changer, and it’s definitely something I want to continue in the next 12 months.
Informal book clubs: I’ve just recently discovered how fun it is to geek out about your favorite books with friends, and I truly think everyone should be doing it. Setting up something informal with friends is a great way to get all the benefits of a book club without feeling pressured to read the same things. My friend Hayley and I are currently the only two members of our little club on Fable, but we’ve been having an absolute blast dissecting books together!
Paperback books: Paperback and e-books in 2024 only. Also reading more fantasy series (shoutout Hayls for your memes and reviews). See ‘OUTS’ for more.
Intentional screen time: I find it really difficult to quit being on my phone or computer completely (I know it’s not great). So I’ve decided to just be more intentional with my screen time. For example, when I take breaks during the day at work, I try to read a newsletter or article on my phone instead of just aimlessly scrolling. This way, I satisfy the craving to be on my phone, but I feed my brain with something better than a round of TikToks.
Monthly dates: It’s so easy to just live past one another, so this year, I really want to put more effort into monthly dates (with friends, partners, and myself!). It also doesn’t have to be an extravagant night out, just something meaningful that gives me some time with the people I love the most.
Other: Hosting friends, pottery painting, doing your own nails (all things I’ve recently gotten into and can’t be normal about), dance breaks, colorful home decor, blush (!!!).
OUTS
⏰🚨💰😪📓
Complicated morning routines: Have you ever struggled to maintain a ‘healthy’ morning routine and wondered if you’re just not disciplined enough to take care of yourself? Well, I have. Before realizing it was because I was trying to do 15 things before 8 a.m. When I simplified it to, like, 3 steps, it became much easier to be consistent.
Money guilt: I like a little treat just as much as the next person. But what I don’t like is feeling like crap about it for the next three days. This year, we’re realising that one croissant won’t ruin our financial goals, and if you’ve spent the money and you had a good time, it’s okay.
Comparison: You’re probably thinking *yawn*, this is boring. But it’s necessary for me to remind myself, this year more than others, that comparison really is the thief of joy.
Hardcover books: One of my goals for 2024 is to read more books, but I’ll pass on hardcovers. They’re uncomfortable to handle and, in my opinion, shouldn’t exist.
Other: feeling the need to be productive 24/7, saying yes to everything, male comedians (iykyk), (most) self-help books.
There we go, a glimpse into my ins and outs for 2024 and the way I hope my year is going to go. What are some of your goals, focus points, and things you’ll be leaving in 2023? Let’s chat in the comments!
Next week, same time, same place—see you there?
Nicola
